How can we help?

Find the fastest fix for capture permissions, shortcuts, scrolling, OCR, pinned screenshots, and exports. Shotlane keeps your screen content on your Mac.

You decide which permissions to grant, and can revoke them in System Settings.

Choose what you need help with.

Each path begins with the smallest safe check before you reset a permission or change a setting.

Diagnose before you report.

These steps preserve your captures and settings. Stop as soon as Shotlane works normally again.

  1. Try the same action from Shotlane

Use the dashboard or menu bar once. This separates a capture problem from a shortcut conflict.

  2. Check only the permission that action needs

Screen Recording is needed for capture. Accessibility is additionally needed for scrolling capture.

  3. Quit and reopen Shotlane

After changing a macOS privacy permission, reopen the app so the system can apply the new authorization.

  4. Retry with the default destination

If export fails, select a destination folder again from Export settings before changing formats or quality.

  5. Copy a sanitized debug report

Open Shotlane → About → Support & Feedback, then review the copied report before sharing it.

Answers without the runaround.

Why does capture not start?

Open System Settings → Privacy & Security and allow Shotlane to record the screen. Then quit and reopen Shotlane. macOS controls this permission; Shotlane cannot bypass it.

Why is Accessibility requested?

Accessibility is used only when scrolling capture needs to control and observe the selected scrollable area. Regular region, window, and full-display capture do not require this extra permission.

Why does Shotlane stay in the menu bar after I close its window?

Closing the settings window keeps Shotlane ready for menu-bar actions and global shortcuts. Choose Quit Shotlane from the app menu or menu bar when you want to stop it completely.

Why does a global shortcut do nothing?

Try the same action from the Shotlane dashboard first. If that works, open Shortcuts settings and record a different combination; another app or macOS may already own the original shortcut.

Why can saving fail in a custom folder?

A sandboxed macOS app can write only to folders you explicitly select. Open Export settings and choose the destination again if it was moved, renamed, or its permission was reset.

Why is a scrolling capture misaligned?

Keep the selected content stable while Shotlane scrolls. Pause video and page animation, avoid moving the pointer over dynamic controls, and retry with the smallest scrollable area that contains the content you need.

Why is OCR text incomplete?

OCR works best with sharp, upright text at a readable size and strong contrast. Recapture a tighter, higher-resolution region when possible. Apple Vision and the bundled PP-OCR engine both run locally.

Why can a pinned screenshot appear in a new capture?

Pinned screenshots are excluded from new captures by default. If one appears, check the pinned-window capture setting, then close and create the pin again before retrying.

Does Shotlane upload screenshots or OCR text?

No. Screenshot content, OCR text, clipboard contents, file names, file paths, window titles, shortcuts, and runtime logs are not uploaded by Shotlane. Anything you choose to post to GitHub Issues is separate and public.

How do I remove Shotlane data?

Delete exported captures in Finder or use Shotlane's confirmed cleanup action, clear diagnostic logs from the app, and revoke permissions in System Settings. Shotlane has no account or cloud copy to delete.
