Shotlane is designed as a local-first macOS screenshot app. Screenshot content, OCR text, clipboard contents, file names, file paths, window titles, shortcut contents, and runtime logs are not uploaded by the app.

The short version

  • Captures and OCR processing happen on your Mac.
  • Shotlane does not provide screenshot cloud sync or upload in the current app.
  • macOS permissions are requested only for the workflows that need them.
  • Shotlane does not include analytics, telemetry, crash reporting, or remote diagnostics.

Debug reports are copied only when you choose that action.

Local screenshot processing

Shotlane uses macOS capture APIs to capture screen pixels, annotate screenshots, run OCR, pick colors, copy results, and save exports. Screenshot content and recognized text stay on the device unless you choose to share files or copied content through another app.

The public OCR paths use macOS Vision by default and bundled PP-OCRv6 tiny as an optional local engine. PP-OCR models are included with the app and do not require Python, PaddleOCR, or a separate download.

macOS permissions

Screen Recording

Required to capture screen pixels. You can manage this permission in macOS System Settings.

Accessibility

Used for scrolling capture and interface control needed by those capture workflows.

Notifications

Used only for local completion alerts such as copied, saved, or OCR-finished results.

User-Selected Folders

Used for saving, opening, and organizing screenshots in locations you choose.

Data Shotlane does not upload

  • Screenshot images and screen recording content.
  • OCR text and copied clipboard contents.
  • File names, file paths, and user-selected folder paths.
  • Window titles and app names from your desktop.
  • Shortcut combinations and settings values.
  • Runtime logs unless you choose to copy and send a debug report yourself.

User-initiated debug reports

Shotlane keeps troubleshooting information on your Mac. The app does not upload runtime logs, diagnostics, analytics events, crash reports, or telemetry.

Debug reports are user-initiated. If you copy and send a debug report, it contains sanitized runtime, permission, display, and recent-status information intended for troubleshooting.

Local storage, retention, and deletion

Shotlane stores preferences and optional diagnostic logs in its macOS app container. Captures are saved only to folders you choose. Temporary clipboard previews are removed automatically after a short local retention period.

You control this local data: delete captures in Finder or with Shotlane's confirmed cleanup action, clear diagnostic logs in the app, and revoke permissions in macOS System Settings. Shotlane has no account or remote copy of this data for the developer to retain or delete.

Website privacy

This website has no analytics or advertising scripts, accounts, or newsletter forms. It saves your selected language in this browser; you can clear that preference in your browser settings. Hosting and DNS providers may process request time, URL, IP address, user agent, and referrer for security and operations.

Changes

This policy may change when Shotlane features or data practices change. The update date at the top of this page will change whenever the policy changes.
